Measures of Central Tendency


Mean

 Also known as average; mean is equal to the sum of all the values in a data set divided by the number of values.

Median

To find mode, first we arrange our set of date from smaller to greater.  The median marks the middle mark, the value that in the exact middle.  If you have an odd set of data, just take the two middle values and average them.

Mode

Mode is used for when we want to know the most common category in a chart or data set.

Volume and Surface Area

Volume and Surface Area
Cube

Volume: You have to multiply the height by the width by the length (W*L*H)
Perimeter:  First , we multiply the perimeter by the height. Then, we add the area of the bases (in the case of the cube, there are two bases)

The perimeter is the sum of all sides.

Cylinder



Volume: For the volume we have to multiply Pi by the radius squared by the altitude. (π*r2*a)
Surface Area: You multiply the circumference by the altitude. Then, you add the area of the bases.    (C*A + 2π*r2)


Pyramid


Volume: the volume is the same as the cube, just divided by 3
Surface Area:  the area is the same as the cube with a few differences. When calculating the perimeter times the height divide by two. As the pyramid only has one base, add the area of that one base instead of two.

Cone


Volume: the same as the cylinder, divided by 3
Surface Area:  the same as the cylinder with the same alterations as the pyramid.

Geogebra

Geogebra is an interactive math software for students and teachers to use. Geogebra is free and available for multiple platforms.  Geogebra joins geometry, algebra, and calculus in one single package.  It includes teaching levels from middle schools to high school and it is available in different languages.  Geogebra was created to help students have a better understanding of math.  The idea for Geogebra was conceived in 2001 by Markus Hohenwarter as part of his thesis.  Since then, it has won many awards including:

Geogebra works with different types of geometry objects like points and vectors, line and axes, functions, curves, and inequalities. The software can be used for schools or personal learning. Geogebra is able to construct multiple geometric figures and deal with variables for numbers, vectors, and points.

2.       49 by 6 = no because it isn’t divisible by 2 or 3
3.       92 by 10 = no because the number doesn’t end in 0
4.       72 by 6 = yes because it is divisible by both 3 and 2
5.       66 by 3 =  yes because the digits add up to a multiple of 3
6.       72 by 3 = yes because the digits add up to a multiple of 3
7.       684 by 9 = yes because the digits add up to a multiple of 9

Augmented Reality

Technology, and how it is used, is one of parent's main concern when it comes to their children. and while the world wide web is home to many different dangers, the benefits we can achieve from it are endless. As of today there are thousands of new up-and-coming applications that we can use to make presentations easier, and one of these applications is Aurasma. 

Aurasma is an augmented reality reality app that, at first, may seem hard to understand, but has a really simple concept. The process to create an Aurasma is the the following. First, we find an image to connect to a video. Then we create the video and through a series of steps we intertwine the two to create an augmented reality that anyone with the Aurasma app can visualize.

What my seventh grade class did was choose a scientific topic and, after researching and analyzing it, we created a poster displaying our conclusions on the topic and what we investigated. Then we made a three minute video ( the app limits the video size that you can use) and connected it to the poster. This allowed anyone that followed our Aurasma channel to be able to see the video come up when they focused the app's camera on the poster.

This is not only an easy way to make a presentation, but it also saved the class from the nervousness of presenting in front of a live audience. And now that you know how to use the app, you can use it on any subject or at work and make your life a little bit easier.

4. the last two digits have to be multiples of 4
5. the last digit has to end in either 5 or 0
6. the number has to be divisible by both 2 and 3

Why is the force of gravity not exactly the same everywhere on Earth's surface?

Because the force of gravity is stronger as it nears the center of the Earth and because the Earth is not completely flat, gravity is bound to change depending on your location. Ex:. Gravity is going to be less stronger on the peak of Mt. Everest than at the bottom.
Basic concepts of Geometry
Geometry

Geometry began with a practical need to measure shapes. The word geometry means to “measure the earth” and is the science of shape and size of things. 
Undefined Terms

An ‘undefined term’ is a term or word that doesn’t require further explanation or description.  It already exists in its most basic form.  These basic terms are used to define or explain more complicated terms or concepts.

Point
A point is the most important and basic concept of geometry. It is represented as a dot with a capital alphabet which is its name.
Line

 A line is a set of points and it extends in opposite directions on forever. It is represented by two points on the line and a single alphabet in the lower case.
Plane

A plane is a flat surface that extends in all directions on forever. A plane has no size and definitely no shape. However it is represented as a quadrangle and a single capital letter.
Collinear and Coplanar

Three or more points are said to be collinear if a single line contains all of them. Otherwise they are said to be non collinear.
Postulates

Postulates are statements the validity or truth of which are assumed without proof.
Theorems

In mathematics, a theorem is a statement that has been proven on the basis of previously established statements, such as other theorems, and previously accepted statements, such as axioms.

Angles
An angle is a figure formed by two rays with a common endpoint, and which are not on the same line.

What would happen if we had no moon?

There would be no lunar tides. The earth could get hit by asteroids more often because the moon sometimes blocks their path. The earth would spin slower because the earth´s rotation is being slowed down through tidal interactions with the moon. It would´ve been awfully dark at night, obviously. There would be shorter days and a more extreme climate.

Force= Mass x Acceleration

Mass: 10kg Acceleration: 5m/s2   =     10x5= 50N

2. Carlos pushes a 3kg box with a force of 9N. The force of friction on the box is 3N in the opposite direction. What is the acceleration of the box?


9N- 3N= 6N   3kg x 6N = 18 m/s2

HOMEWORK 9'6'2013

Carlos and Sarah are playing a game in which each player either wins, loses, or draws at each turn. The winner of a turn is awarded 5 points, the loser loses 5 points, and if it’s a draw 0 points are awarded. For the first 8 rounds Carlos had the following result: lose, win, lose, win, win, lose, win, and draw.
What is Sarah’s point total?  

Sarah’s wins: 3
Sarah’s losses: 4
Draws: 0

3x5= 15  -5x4= -20  15+(-20) = -5


Sarah’s point total is -5
